Denture Types:

Acrylic Full Dentures

Acrylic full dentures are made for people who have no natural teeth remaining.

The Acrylic full denture is a removable dental appliance that replaces the missing teeth in the mouth. It is made using a plate that covers the roof or floor of the mouth. Full dentures are important for eating and talking.

One of the main advantages of an acrylic denture is that they are cost effective and can be made within a short period of time. Similarly, the addition of teeth to an acrylic denture is an easy procedure and can be typically carried out in the one day at our clinic.

Acrylic Partial Dentures

Acrylic partial dentures are made for people who still have natural teeth remaining and can be fitted to the lower and upper jaw.

The Acrylic partial denture is a removable dental appliance that replaces the missing teeth in the mouth. It is made using a plate that covers the roof or floor of the mouth. Partial dentures are important for eating, talking and they help prevent remaining teeth from drifting. Sometimes clasps are added to the denture to offer extra stability, however clasps are not always necessary.

Partial dentures are important if there is a gap left by a missing tooth as it can affect your bite. Over time surrounding teeth can drift and move towards the gap, which will ultimately change the way the upper and lower teeth come together. This can then lead to food packing between the gaps, which is a common cause of decay and gum disease.

One of the main advantages of an acrylic denture is that they are cost effective and can be made within a short period of time. Similarly, the addition of teeth to an acrylic denture is an easy procedure and can be typically carried out in the one day at our clinic.

Acrylic dentures in comparison to a cobalt chrome denture it is relatively cheap.

Chrome Dentures

Chrome dentures are made for people who still have natural teeth remaining.

The Chrome denture is comfortable to wear and has great retention. They are made using a thin metal frame in the mouth that sits on and around the natural teeth onto which denture teeth are attached by acrylic, which leaves the palate uncovered.  It is a very strong denture and is less likely to break or fracture than an acrylic partial denture. Due to the strength of the material chrome dentures tend to be less bulky and more secure in the patients mouth. Cobalt chrome dentures tend to be much more hygienic. The denture is a good option for patients with a gag reflex due to their size and close fit.

The stability and retention of the chrome denture comes from the metal framework gripping the natural teeth. Both the number and position of remaining natural teeth is critical to the success of the denture.
